Peak Cherry Blossom Blooms Shifting from Climate Change

Based on over 100 years of data, peak cheery blossom bloom in DC is usually early April, but

this year, the National Park Service declared peak bloom on March 23. The National Cherry Blossom Festival was scheduled March 20-April 16, largely occurring after the peak bloom date. This is climate change at work, confusing biological events for trees. The resulting unpredictability of peak bloom and shifts in timing pose challenges for tourism planners and can affect economic systems. I was happy to make it to DC in early April and while it was past peak bloom, the blossoms were still beautiful (even with the rain) and worthy of checking off as a bucket list item.
